Driveright FAQs

  • My On-Board Card Reader will not read my card. The light is orange and and the reader will not read the card.

  • The starter interrupter does not work. The vehicle will always start.

My On-Board Card Reader will not read my card. The light is orange and and the reader will not read the card.

We have seen a number of older On Board Readers (OBR) that have a sticky "card switch". This is a switch inside that opens when a card is inserted. If the switch sticks open the reader will think a card is present at all times, even if one has not been inserted, and the LED will turn orange to signify that it cannot read a card.  What happens is that part of the switch rubs against some plastic and "hangs". Our fix is to cut/scrape away a small bit of the plastic so no rubbing can occur. This change was made by the end of August, 2005. Smart Cards shipped in September, 2005 and later should not have the potential for this problem. If you think you may have this prolem you should call Technical Support at 510-732-7814 for instructions on returning the On Board Reader back to Davis for repair/replacement.

The starter interrupter does not work. The vehicle will always start. If the starter interrupter is installed improperly it will be damaged. If the two power wires ( red and yellow ) on the starter interrupter are reversed during installation two MOSFETs and a diode will blow in the On Board Reader and a diode in the Starter Interrupter may also blow. The Reader and Cards will still work as intended but the Starter Interrupter will not and will always allow the vehicle to be started. The On Board Reader will need to be repaired and Starter Interrupter will need to be replaced.
